How To Upload Models On Roblox

To upload a model on Roblox, first make sure the parts you built in Roblox Studio are saved as one model. Then use the model’s Save to Roblox option to upload it, add its details, and choose who owns it.

This process is useful when you want to keep a model in your Roblox assets, use it in experiences, or make it available through the Creator Store. The steps below cover the upload process shown in Roblox Studio and the configuration options available after it finishes.

Prepare your model in Roblox Studio

Start by opening the Roblox Studio project that contains the model you want to upload. You can upload a creation made from one part, but models made from several parts need to be grouped first. Grouping keeps the pieces together as one item when you save it to Roblox.

For example, a chair could contain a seat, four legs, and a backrest. If those pieces are separate in the Explorer, select and group them before uploading. This prevents you from saving only one piece when you meant to save the full chair.

  1. Find the parts that make up your creation in Roblox Studio.
  2. Hold Shift on your keyboard.
  3. Select each part that should be included in the model.
  4. Press Ctrl + G to group the selected parts into one model.

Check the Explorer panel after grouping. Your selected pieces should now appear under a single model entry. Give the model a clear name in Studio if needed. A descriptive name makes it easier to identify when you manage the uploaded asset later.

Save the model to Roblox

Once your creation is one model, you can upload it from the Explorer. You must right-click the model itself, not one of the individual parts inside it.

  1. In the Explorer panel, locate your grouped model.
  2. Right-click the model.
  3. Point to Save/Export.
  4. Select Save to Roblox.

Roblox Studio opens the asset configuration window. This is where you set the basic information Roblox uses for the uploaded model. Take a moment to fill this out accurately, especially if you plan to share the item with other creators or distribute it through the Creator Store.

Set the asset details before uploading

In the asset configuration window, enter a name and description for the model. Use a name that explains what the item is, such as “Wooden Park Bench” instead of a vague name like “Model 1.” The description can explain the item’s purpose, contents, or intended use.

You can also choose an asset category. Select the category that best fits the model so its details are organized correctly. Next, assign the creator. You can set yourself as the creator, or select a group if the model belongs to a group you have available.

  1. Enter the model name.
  2. Add a useful description.
  3. Choose the appropriate asset category.
  4. Select the creator, either yourself or an available group.
  5. Select Save at the bottom of the window.

Roblox Studio then uploads the model to Roblox. Let the upload complete. When it is finished, Roblox provides a link to the uploaded asset. Select that link to open the model’s page in Roblox after you log in.

Configure the uploaded Roblox model

The asset page gives you more options for the model after it has been uploaded. You can add images and videos related to the item. These can help show what the model looks like and how it is used.

You can also control whether other people can use the model in their experiences. Review this setting carefully. Enable it only when you want other creators to have access to the model.

If you want to distribute the item through the Creator Store, turn on distribution. You will need to set a price for the model, and that price can be free. Choose the setting that matches how you want to share the asset.

View or share your model

Select Open in Creator Store to see how the uploaded item appears there. This is a useful way to review its listing after you have configured distribution.

You can also share the model directly with someone who needs it for their game. On the asset page, select the three dots and use the option to copy the asset ID. You can send that asset ID to other people so they can reference the model in their own experiences.

That is all you need to do to upload models on Roblox from Roblox Studio. Build the item, group its parts when necessary, save it to Roblox, then configure the uploaded asset based on how you plan to use or share it.
