The Google Discover page can open every time you swipe left from your Android home screen. If you do not use it, turn off the launcher option that shows the Google feed on the left-most home screen.
The exact label differs between Android launchers, but you are looking for a setting related to Google Discover, Google feed, or a swipe left home screen action. This change affects the home screen, not the Google search app itself.

Turn off the swipe-left Google feed
Start from your regular Android home screen. You need to open the settings for the launcher that controls your home screen layout.
- Go to your Android Home screen.
- Open the settings or customization options for your home screen launcher. Many launchers provide this when you touch and hold an empty area of the home screen.
- Look for a section related to the home screen, extra pages, gestures, or the Google feed.
- Find the option named Google Discover, Google feed, or an option that enables Google when you swipe left.
- Turn that option off.
- Return to the home screen and swipe left from the first page to test it.
Once the setting is disabled, the Google news and article page should no longer appear when you swipe left. Your launcher may stop at the first home screen page, or it may show another page that you have set up.
What this setting actually changes
The page that appears to the left of your first home screen is commonly called Google Discover. It shows news stories, suggested articles, sports updates, weather information, and other content chosen from your Google activity and interests.
Disabling the swipe-left feed removes the shortcut to that page from the home screen. It does not delete your Google account, remove the Google app, or prevent you from searching with Google. You can still open the Google app normally if you want to use search, view Discover directly, or manage your Google settings.
This is useful if you frequently open the feed by accident while moving between home screen pages. It can also make the home screen feel simpler, especially if you only want app icons and widgets there.
If you cannot find the Google Discover option
There is no single Android setting that works on every phone. The swipe-left page is controlled by the launcher, which is the app responsible for your home screen and app drawer. Because of that, the wording and location of the control can vary.
Check the launcher settings carefully for terms such as Google, Discover, feed, left page, home screen page, or swipe. Some launchers place the option alongside home screen layout controls. Others place it with gesture settings or a section for media and content pages.
If your launcher does not show a Google Discover or swipe-left option, it may not provide a switch for removing that page. In that case, do not assume that disabling parts of the Google app will fix the home screen behavior. The launcher controls what happens when you swipe from the first page.
You can also confirm which launcher is currently active before changing anything. If you use a different home screen app from the one that came with your phone, its own settings determine whether the Google page appears. Open that launcher’s settings and search for the same types of labels.
Check that the change worked
- Return to the first, left-most page of your home screen.
- Swipe from left to right, as if you were opening Google Discover.
- Confirm that the Google news feed no longer opens.
- Swipe between your normal home screen pages to make sure your icons and widgets still behave as expected.
If the feed still appears, reopen the launcher settings and make sure the change was saved. Some launchers use a toggle that takes effect immediately, while others may require you to leave the settings screen before the home screen refreshes.
Keep your home screen focused
Turning off Google Discover is a home screen preference, not a permanent change to Google. You can turn it back on later by returning to the same launcher setting and enabling the Google feed or swipe-left page again.
If your goal is simply to stop accidental swipes, leave the Google app installed and disable the launcher feed. That keeps search available when you need it while removing the page that keeps appearing from the side of your home screen.
