To enable 2FA on Fortnite, you need to change the security settings for the Epic Games account connected to your Fortnite profile. The important part is signing in with the correct Epic Games account first. If you play Fortnite on PlayStation or Xbox, you may need to use your console account sign-in option instead of entering a separate email and password.
Once 2FA is enabled, Epic Games will ask for a second verification code when needed. This adds protection for your Fortnite account, including your skins and V-Bucks, if someone gets hold of your password.

Sign in to the Epic Games account linked to Fortnite
- Open a web browser and go to epicgames.com.
- Select Sign In in the top-right corner.
- Choose the sign-in method connected to the Fortnite account where you want to enable 2FA.
- Complete the sign-in process.
Take a moment to confirm that you are using the right account. This matters most if you normally launch Fortnite through a PlayStation or Xbox account. Signing in with a different Epic Games account will enable two-factor authentication on that other account, not on the Fortnite profile you use.
If you are unsure which account is connected, use the sign-in option you normally use for Fortnite. For example, sign in through your PlayStation Network or Xbox account if that is how you access the game.
Open Password and Security settings
- After signing in, select your username in the top-right corner of the Epic Games website.
- Select Account.
- In the menu on the left, select Password and Security.
- If Epic Games asks you to verify your identity, select Continue.
Epic Games may email you a six-digit verification code before it lets you open this section. Check the inbox for the email address on your Epic Games account, copy the code from the message, paste it into the verification field, and select Continue.
If the email does not appear, check your junk or spam folder. The verification email includes your Epic Games account username and the code you need.
Choose a two-factor authentication method
At the top of the Password and Security page, find the Two-Factor Authentication section. Epic Games provides several methods for verifying your account:
- Email Authentication, which sends a sign-in code to your email address.
- Epic Games Authenticator, which uses the Epic Games app on your phone.
- Authenticator App, which generates verification codes in an authenticator app.
- SMS Authentication, which sends verification codes by text message to your phone number.
You can enable more than one method. Epic Games recommends setting up additional methods, so you have another way to verify your account if you cannot access one option.
Enable 2FA with email authentication
Email authentication is a straightforward option if you want to finish setup using the email address already connected to your Epic Games account.
- Under the email option in the Two-Factor Authentication section, select Setup.
- Open the email inbox associated with your Epic Games account.
- Look for an Epic Games message with the subject related to your two-factor authentication sign-in code.
- Copy the code from the email.
- Paste the code into the Epic Games verification screen.
- Select Continue.
After the code is accepted, return to the Two-Factor Authentication section. You should see that a two-factor authentication method is enabled and that email is the active method.
Fix an invalid or expired security code
Security codes are time-sensitive. If Epic Games says the code is invalid or expired, do not keep entering the same code.
- Select Resend Security Code on the verification screen.
- Wait for the new email from Epic Games.
- Copy the newest code only.
- Paste it into the code field.
- Select Continue.
Also make sure you are checking the email account linked to the Epic Games account you signed into. Using an older email code after requesting a new one can cause the verification to fail.
Check that Fortnite 2FA is enabled
Your setup is complete when the Two-Factor Authentication area shows an enabled method. You can leave email authentication active or add another available method for extra account recovery options.
Keep access to the email address, phone number, or authenticator method you use. You may need that verification method when Epic Games asks you to confirm a future sign-in. With 2FA enabled on the correct Epic Games account, your Fortnite account has an extra layer of protection against unauthorized logins.
