Clear the browsing data you no longer want in Chrome
Google Chrome lets you remove your browsing history and other stored browser data from one screen. You can choose how far back Chrome should delete information, then decide which data types to remove. This is useful when you want to clear recent activity, remove site information, or clean out cached images and files.
The steps below use the Delete Browsing Data option in Chrome. Before you confirm the deletion, check the selected time range and boxes carefully. Chrome deletes the items you select when you choose Delete Data.

How to delete browsing history in Google Chrome
- Open the Google Chrome browser.
- Select the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser.
- Choose Delete Browsing Data.
- Select the time frame for the data you want Chrome to delete.
- Choose the types of browsing data you want to remove.
- Select Delete Data to confirm.
Chrome will show the deletion has completed, and the selected browsing data will be cleared. The important part is reviewing the time frame and data types before selecting Delete Data, since those choices determine exactly what is removed.
Choose the right time range
After selecting Delete Browsing Data, Chrome opens its deletion settings. Start by choosing the time frame. This controls how much of your saved data Chrome removes.
If you only need to remove recent browsing activity, choose the shorter time frame that covers that activity. If you want to clear all saved browsing data covered by your selections, choose All time. This is the option to use when you want Chrome to delete your history from the full available period rather than only recent entries.
Pick the time range first, then review the items selected below it. That order makes it easier to avoid deleting more data than intended.
Select what you want to remove
The deletion screen lets you choose which types of data Chrome will clear. If browsing history is your only concern, leave Browsing history selected and remove any other selections you do not want to delete.
You may also want to remove other data that can contain traces of sites you visited. Cached images and similar stored files, for example, can retain information from web pages. Cookies and other site data can also remain in the browser after you clear the history itself. Select the categories that match what you want removed.
If you want to clear everything shown in the deletion settings, select all of the available items and then choose Delete Data. You can also leave specific items alone. For example, you can keep hosted data or download history if removing those items is not part of your goal.
What happens after you select Delete Data
Selecting Delete Data removes the data types you selected for the chosen time range. If you selected only Browsing history, Chrome clears that history without deleting the other categories you left unchecked. If you selected cached images, cookies, and other site data too, Chrome clears those selected items as part of the same action.
Once Chrome indicates the data has been deleted, your selected browsing history is cleared. You can return to the same Delete Browsing Data screen later whenever you need to remove another time period or clean a different group of stored browser data.
Quick checklist before clearing Chrome data
- Confirm the time range, especially before choosing All time.
- Keep Browsing history selected to delete your visited-page history.
- Select cached images, cookies, or other site data only if you want those items removed too.
- Leave hosted data or download history unselected if you want to keep them.
- Select Delete Data only after reviewing every selected item.
