You can create a WhatsApp vote poll directly inside a chat. Add a question, enter the choices people can select, and send it like a regular message. The poll stays in the conversation, so everyone in that chat can vote and you can check the results.
The steps below use the WhatsApp interface shown in the video, where the + button appears to the left of the message box. This tutorial demonstrates creating a poll in a group chat.

Create a poll in a WhatsApp chat
- Open WhatsApp.
- Go to Chats.
- Open the group chat where you want to post the poll.
- Select the + symbol to the left of the text box.
- Select Poll.
- Enter your poll question.
- Add the answer choices under Options.
- Choose whether to keep Allow multiple answers turned on or off.
- Select Send to post the poll in the chat.
Your poll will appear as a message in the conversation. Members of the group can select an answer directly from that message.
Add your question and answer options
Start by writing a question that makes the available choices clear. For example, you could ask which day works best for a group plan, which restaurant the group prefers, or what time a meeting should start.
Then enter each possible response in the Options area. After you add a second option, WhatsApp gives you the ability to add a third option. You do not need to add more choices than your question requires.
Keep the options distinct. If two choices mean nearly the same thing, people may split their votes between them and make the result harder to interpret. For a date poll, list each date separately. For a simple yes-or-no question, use one option for each answer.
Choose if people can select multiple answers
Before sending the poll, check the Allow multiple answers setting at the bottom of the poll screen. This setting controls how many options each person can choose.
Leave it on when more than one choice can reasonably work. For instance, a group may be available on several days, or members may want to choose multiple activities. Multiple-answer polls can help you identify every option that has enough support.
Turn it off when you need one clear choice from each person. This works well for questions such as selecting a single meeting time, choosing one meal, or voting for one event location. With the setting off, each person votes for one answer.
Vote on a WhatsApp poll
After the poll is posted, tap the answer you want to vote for in the poll message. Your selection is recorded in the chat. The poll makes it easy for participants to respond without sending separate messages that can clutter the conversation.
If the poll allows multiple answers, select every answer that applies to you. If it allows only one answer, select the one choice you prefer. Make sure the poll question explains which type of response you need before you send it.
See who voted and what they chose
WhatsApp lets you review the responses from the poll itself. In the poll message, select View votes. This opens the vote details, where you can see who voted and what they voted for.
This is useful when you need more than the overall result. For example, you can check which people are available on a particular day or see which option each group member selected. It also helps you spot members who have not responded yet, so you can follow up in the chat if a decision needs to be made.
Use polls to keep group decisions organized
A poll is most helpful when the group needs to make one decision and you want responses in one place. Instead of asking everyone to type an answer, post the choices in the poll and let the chat collect the votes.
For the clearest result, keep your question focused and provide only the options people need. Decide whether one answer or multiple answers makes sense before sending. Once responses come in, open View votes to review the details and use the result to make the next decision.
