How To Get A Refund On Apple App Store & iTunes Purchases

Request your refund from Apple’s website

You cannot submit an Apple App Store or iTunes refund request from the App Store or iTunes Store itself. Instead, use Apple’s Report a Problem page in a web browser. You can do this on your iPhone or on another device where you can sign in to your Apple Account.

The process lets you send a refund request for App Store apps, in-app purchases, subscriptions, songs, movies, and other iTunes Store purchases. Apple reviews the request after you submit it.

Have the Apple Account you used for the purchase ready before you begin. You will need to sign in to see the purchases connected to that account.

How to request an Apple App Store refund

  1. Open a web browser and go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
  2. Sign in with the Apple Account used to make the purchase.
  3. Select the I’d like to drop-down menu.
  4. Choose Request a refund.
  5. Under Tell us more, select the reason you are requesting a refund.
  6. Select Next.
  7. Find and select the item you want refunded from the list of purchases.
  8. Select Next to send the request to Apple.

That is all you need to do to submit the request. Apple will review it and get back to you, usually within 24 to 48 hours.

Choose the purchase you want refunded

After you choose Request a refund and give Apple a reason, the next screen shows items associated with your account. Select the specific app, subscription, song, movie, or other purchase you want Apple to review.

Take a moment to check the item name before selecting Next. This is particularly useful if you have several purchases from the same developer or have more than one subscription listed.

The reason menu is part of the request process, so choose the option that best matches what happened. For example, you may be requesting a refund because a purchase was accidental, you received an unwanted subscription charge, or an app or item did not work as expected. Apple receives both the reason and the item you select for review.

If your recent purchase is missing

A very recent App Store or iTunes purchase may not appear immediately on the Report a Problem page. If you cannot see the item you want to request a refund for, wait an hour or two and check again. The purchase may still be processing and can appear in the list later.

When it shows up, repeat the same steps: select I’d like to, choose Request a refund, pick a reason, choose the item, and submit it with Next.

If you are signed in but do not see an older purchase you expected, make sure you are using the Apple Account that was used to buy it. The list on the page is tied to the signed-in account.

What happens after you submit the request

Submitting the form sends your refund request to Apple for review. A request is not the same as an immediate refund, since Apple needs to review the purchase and the reason you selected.

Apple says it will get back to you within 24 to 48 hours. Keep an eye on the account or contact details associated with your Apple Account while you wait for its response. If you need to submit a request for another item, select that specific purchase separately from the list shown on the Report a Problem page.

Quick checklist before submitting

  • Use a browser, not the App Store or iTunes Store app.
  • Go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
  • Select Request a refund from the I’d like to menu.
  • Choose the reason for the request.
  • Select the correct purchase.
  • Submit it with Next.

If the item is missing, give it an hour or two before trying again. Once the purchase appears, you can send the request through the same page.
