How to Flip Camera on Windows 11 PC & Laptop

Fix a webcam that is upside down or sideways

You can flip camera orientation in Windows 11 from the camera settings. This fixes a webcam that is upside down or sideways, and the change carries over when you use that camera in apps such as the Camera app or a web browser.

A mirrored image is different. Windows 11 can rotate the camera, but it does not include a system-wide setting to mirror or unmirror it. For that problem, change the video setting in the app where you are using the webcam.

Rotate or flip your camera in Windows 11

Start by checking the camera preview. This makes it easier to tell if the image needs a simple rotation or if it is actually mirrored.

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Bluetooth & devices from the menu on the left.
  4. Scroll down and select Cameras.
  5. Select the camera you want to correct. This may be your built-in laptop webcam or an external webcam.
  6. Wait for the camera preview to load.
  7. Scroll down to Video rotation.
  8. Select the rotation that puts your image the right way up.

Windows applies the rotation quickly. If your webcam was mounted upside down, choose the option that flips it upright. If it was sideways, select the rotation that returns it to the normal position.

Once you set the rotation, use your webcam as normal. The corrected orientation should appear when you open the Camera app, use the camera in a web browser, record a video, or join a video call.

Check which camera you are changing

This matters if your PC has more than one camera. A laptop can have a built-in webcam while an external USB webcam is also connected. The Cameras page lists the available cameras, so select the one with the incorrect preview before changing Video rotation.

If you change a rotation option and nothing looks different in the app you are using, check the preview in Windows 11 again. You may have adjusted a different camera than the one selected by the app.

You can return to the same camera page later and choose another rotation if you move the webcam or change how it is mounted.

Fix a mirrored webcam image

A mirror problem can look similar to an orientation problem, but the fix is different. Your face may look normal, while text, signs, or objects appear backward. Rotating the camera will not correct that.

Windows 11 does not provide a built-in camera setting that flips a mirrored video image. Instead, open the app you use for calls, recordings, or livestreams and look in its video or camera settings. The setting may be called Mirror video, or it may use words such as flip or mirror camera.

For example, in Zoom in a browser, enable your camera and select the small up button to open the camera settings. Look for Mirror video. Changing that option flips the image for the Zoom video feed.

Other apps can use different labels and layouts, but the goal is the same. Open that app’s video settings, then look for a mirror or flip option. The setting is controlled by the app, not by the Windows 11 Cameras page.

Know which fix you need

Use Video rotation in Windows 11 when the whole camera view is upside down or sideways. Use an app’s mirror setting when the view is left-to-right reversed, especially when text appears backward.

If your image looks correct in the Windows camera preview but wrong only during a call or recording, check the app’s video settings first. If it looks upside down everywhere, return to Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Cameras, and adjust Video rotation for that camera.
