Set up the Claude and Blender connection
Claude can communicate with Blender through the Blender MCP integration. You need the Claude Desktop app and Blender installed on your PC or laptop before you start. The setup has two parts: install the Blender connector in Claude, then install the matching add-on in Blender and start its bridge server.
Keep both apps available while you set this up. Claude uses its connector to send requests, while Blender needs the MCP bridge server running to receive them. Once the connection is working, you can ask Claude to create or change objects in your Blender scene with text prompts.

Install the Blender connector in Claude Desktop
Start in the Claude Desktop app. You will use the left-side menu to find the connector library. If the menu is hidden, select the small menu icon to open it first.
- Open the Claude Desktop app.
- Select Customize from the left menu.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Customize section and select Connectors.
- Select Add in the top-right corner.
- Search for Blender in the connector browser.
- Select the Blender result, then select Install.
- Select Install again to confirm that you want to add the Blender extension to Claude.
After the connector installs, you still need to add the Blender-side component. Do not try a prompt yet. Claude will not be able to reach Blender until you install the add-on and run the MCP bridge server.
Download and install the Blender MCP add-on
Return to the Blender connector page in Claude. It includes the file needed for Blender. Select Instructions to open the official Blender website in your browser. From there, select Download and save the add-on file somewhere you can find easily, such as your Downloads folder.
Next, open Blender and install that downloaded file from its preferences.
- In Blender, select Edit.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Add-ons from the menu on the left.
- Select the down arrow in the top-right area of the Add-ons page.
- Select Install from Disk.
- Locate the add-on file you downloaded through the Claude connector instructions.
- Select the file, then select Install from Disk.
When the install finishes, look for MCP in the Add-ons area. This is the add-on that lets Blender communicate with Claude.
Enable online access and start the MCP bridge server
Blender needs online access enabled before you start the bridge server. You can set this in the Preferences window you already opened.
- In Blender Preferences, select System from the left menu.
- Find the Network section.
- Enable Allow Online Access.
- Go back to Add-ons.
- Select the small drop-down beside MCP.
- Scroll down and select Start MCP Bridge Server.
Leave Blender open after starting the server. If you close Blender or stop the bridge server, Claude will no longer have an active connection to your scene. You can close the Preferences window once the server has started.
Test Claude access to Blender
Open Claude Desktop again and begin with a simple check. Ask, Do you have access to Blender? This confirms that the connector, add-on, and bridge server are communicating before you ask Claude to make changes.
Once Claude confirms access, give it a clear building prompt. For example, you can ask it to build an object or make a simple house in your current Blender scene. Claude may ask for permission the first time it needs to edit Blender. Allow access if you want it to create or modify the scene.
You may also see a request to allow get area screenshot from Blender. Allowing this gives Claude a screenshot of the Blender area. It can use that image to check what it created and assess how the result looks in your scene.
What to check if Claude cannot control Blender
If your first prompt does not work, check the setup in order. First, make sure the Blender connector appears installed in Claude under Customize and Connectors. Next, open Blender Preferences and confirm that the MCP add-on is installed.
Then check that Allow Online Access is enabled under System and Network. Finally, return to the MCP add-on controls and start the MCP Bridge Server again. Testing with the access question is useful because it separates a connection issue from a prompt issue.
After Claude can access Blender, use specific requests for the object or change you want. Keep Blender open, approve the requested permissions, and review the result directly in the Blender viewport as Claude works.
