How to Turn Off Developer Options on Android Phone

Remove the Developer Options menu from Settings

You can turn off Developer Options from the same place where you enabled it. On the Android phone shown here, the setting is inside the System section of Settings. Switching off Use developer options disables Developer Options and removes that menu from your regular Settings layout.

This is useful if you no longer need access to advanced Android controls. It also helps prevent accidental changes to settings that are meant for development and testing.

How to turn off Developer Options on Android

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone.
  2. Scroll down and select System.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the System page.
  4. Under Advanced, select Developer options.
  5. At the top of the Developer Options page, turn off the Use developer options toggle.

Developer Options are now disabled. Go back to your Settings pages and the Developer options entry will no longer appear in the System section.

What happens when you disable Developer Options

The main Developer Options switch controls access to the advanced settings on that page. Once you turn off Use developer options, Android hides the Developer Options menu from Settings.

This does not require you to reset your phone. You are only changing the Developer Options setting. Your normal Android settings remain available, including the regular options under System.

If you had opened Developer Options to change a setting for testing, it is a good idea to review anything you changed before turning the main switch off. Then use the Use developer options toggle to remove access to the full menu when you are finished.

Check that the menu is gone

After disabling Developer Options, return to Settings and open System again. Scroll down to the Advanced area where Developer Options appeared before.

You should no longer see Developer options listed there. That confirms the feature is turned off and the menu has been hidden from your Settings app.

If you still see the menu immediately after changing the toggle, back out of Settings and open it again. The important control is the Use developer options switch at the top of the Developer Options page. Make sure that switch is off.

Turn Developer Options back on later

You may need Developer Options again if you want to use an advanced Android feature or follow instructions that specifically require it. When that happens, you will need to enable Developer Options again before the menu returns to Settings.

For now, leaving Use developer options turned off keeps the advanced menu out of your normal Settings layout. This makes it less likely that you will open an option by mistake while changing everyday phone settings.

Quick reminder

The path shown in this guide is Settings, System, Developer options, then switch off Use developer options. Once the switch is off, go back to System and confirm that the Developer Options entry has been removed.

You do not need to change every item on the Developer Options page to hide the menu. Turning off the main Use developer options toggle is the step that disables Developer Options on the Android phone shown in this tutorial.
