How to setup Garmin Assistance and Incident Detection? In this tutorial, I show you how to use and setup Garmin Assistance and Incident Detection. This includes a review and demo of this Garmin safety feature. What is Garmin Assistance and Incident Detection? Garmin Assistance and Incident Detection is a new feature that allows you to alert your emergency contact in an emergency. 

Garmin Assistance and Incident Detection is available on the following Garmin watches: Vívoactive 3 Music, Vivoactive 4, Venu, Fenix 5, Fenix 6, Forerunner 45, 245, 645, and 945.

Follow the steps below to configure your emergency contacts:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone. 
  2. In the app, open the menu by selecting the 3 lines in the top left of the app.
  3. In the menu, select Safety & Tracking, then Incident Detection and Assistance.
  4. Ensure your contact information is correct (such as your name and location).
  5. Select Add Emergency Contact.
  6. Once on the Add Emergency Contacts page, select the 3 dots in the top right of the app to open the menu and select Create Contact.
  7. Add the required information: First Name, Last Name, Phone number, and Email address.
  8. Select Save.
  9. On the Add Emergency Contacts page, ensure this contact is selected. 

How to use Garmin Assistance? To activate Garmin Assistance simply hold the Light button down for 10 seconds. This will trigger your Garmin watch to alert your emergency contacts.
